The Mercedes-Benz W479, sold as the X-Class, was a mid-size pickup produced from 09/2017 to 05/2020. Developed in cooperation with the Renault–Nissan Alliance, it shared its ladder-frame architecture with the Nissan Navara/NP300, but received Mercedes-specific suspension tuning, exterior panels, interior trim, NVH refinement, and safety calibration. Body style was a four-door double cab with a separate load bed. Engines included four-cylinder turbo-diesels such as the X 220 d and X 250 d, typically using a 2.3-liter common-rail diesel, plus the X 350 d with a 3.0-liter OM642 V6 turbo-diesel producing 190 kW and 550 Nm. Transmissions were a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic, depending on variant. Driveline layouts included rear-wheel drive and selectable or permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive with low range; some versions also offered a rear differential lock. Payload was roughly around 1.0 tonne, with braked towing capacity up to 3.5 tonnes. The W479 used front double-wishbone suspension and a rear rigid axle with multi-link/coil-spring setup, balancing utility and on-road comfort.
